This year’s annual Safety Awareness Week 2016 is Friday, September 23rd – Friday, September 30th.
During Safety Awareness Week, W.J. Watson P.S. will be conducting required “Lockdown” and “Hold-and-Secure” drills. There will also be one additional lockdown drill later this year.
Please be advised that during any of our school lockdown and hold and secure drills, a sign will be posted on all entrances to the school and childcare. We ask that when this sign is posted, visitors remain outside the building until the sign is removed.
In addition to our “Lockdown” and “Hold-And-Secure” drills, we conduct six fire drills over the course of the year. We have already had one fire drill and our students were able to exit the building safely and orderly in just three minutes!
Safety is everyone’s concern and responsibility. The following websites may be of interest to you and your family when thinking and learning about being safe:
- Elementary Safety 4 Children – The focus of this website is fire, personal and emergency safety. Resources include colourful comic strips, games, word finds and colouring pages.
- Street Safe – This resource produced by the Alberta Office of Traffic Safety is a tool kit for students in kindergarten to grade three and focuses on bus safety, pedestrian and personal safety. Each section has lessons with blackline masters, songs, stories and additional supporting web resources.
