Hat Days Are Here!

Hat days are here!  Students are invited to wear their favourite hats in school each Friday in November as we raise money for the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Foundation (downiewenjack.ca).

Please bring in a suggested donation of $1, which will be collected by Grade 6 students during snack time, for this worthy cause.

This year, Me to We, in collaboration with Mrs. Williams’ Grade 6 students, will be focusing on building awareness around the challenges faced by Aboriginal communities in Canada, with a particular focus on the effects of residential schooling.

The story of Chanie Wenjack represents thousands of Aboriginal stories of residential schooling.  Check out this heritage minute video to view his story: Chanie Wenjack Story.

You can also watch Gord Downie’s “Secret Path”, which tells the story of Chanie Wenjack through music and animation, at The Secret Path – through music and animation.
