School Organization 2015-2016

W.J. Watson P.S. Class Organization – 2015-2016

As we begin organizing for the 2015-2016 school year, parents are invited to provide input for consideration in the class placement process.

As we go through the process of determining placements of students for next year, we will not be taking parent requests for specific classroom teachers or specific requests for straight grade classes.  Our staff will use student data and their professional judgement throughout a collaborative process to make decisions when creating balanced classroom learning communities for the 2015-2016 school year.  Parents are invited to provide information in writing that they feel may be valuable in the class organization process.  We ask that all written requests or feedback from parents regarding class placements be submitted to the Principal, Mrs. Crossley, in writing, by May 15th, 2015.

The Ministry of Education has mandated a hard cap of 20 students in each of the primary (1-3) classes.  Since this is a hard cap and there is little flexibility to increase the limit above 20, it is highly likely that there will be combined classes throughout Kindergarten to Grade 8.

In September and October, when the Ministry audits class sizes, there will be a need to closely monitor the enrolment.  For this reason we may need to reorganize in September given that we have new students moving in and out of our community during the summer.  As well, we will not be putting the name of next year’s teacher on the report cards in June, as adjustments may need to be made to the classes before school starts in September.  We would like to assure you that when class placement discussions take place, the teachers and administration work together to ensure that the best interests of all the children are taken into account.

As always, we encourage you to continue to talk with your child and his or her classroom teacher about academic, social and learning skill progress.

Mrs. Crossley and Ms. Murray
