Grade 8 Graduation Information

Save the Date!  Grade 8 Graduation:

Wednesday, June 21st, 2017.

This year’s Graduation Ceremony will be held at Keswick High School on Wednesday, June 21st, from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the gym.  Following the graduation ceremony, there will be a reception for graduates and their families in the main foyer, and then a dinner and dance for students in the cafeteria.  Organized by the Graduation Committee and Staff, the theme of the dance this year is “Tropical Hawaiian Luau.”  The dance will end promptly at 10:30 p.m., and all students must be picked up, in person, by a parent or guardian.

This year, each student will be able to bring up to 8 guests to the Graduation Ceremony.  Additional information about the Graduation Ceremony, Reception and Dance, including ordering tickets, will be sent home later this month.

We’re also looking for donations to support our evening.  Specifically, we’re looking for:

  • Coloured plastic tablecloths
  • Grass skirts
  • Flower Leis
  • Anything Hawaiian-related

Please contact Marika Sellers, our School Council representative on the Graduation Committee, at mickey013@rogers.com, for more information about donating.

Should you have any questions or concerns about the graduation, please do not hesitate to call the school office.  It promises to be a wonderful evening!

Grade 8 Graduation Committee Meeting

Dear Families,

Our next Grade 8 Graduation Committee meeting with be taking place on Thursday, February 23rd at 10:40 a.m. (morning recess) in the library.  The Graduation Committee includes several grade 8 student representatives, staff, administration and parents/guardians.  We hold our meetings during the day to ensure our students (future graduates!) are able to fully participate.  We appreciate that daytime meetings can be challenging for many families, but your input is still welcome and appreciated.  To join the Committee, interested parents/guardians are asked to email Marika Sellers, School Council Representative, at mickey013@rogers.com with your availability.   Please also feel free to contact Melissa Murray, Vice-Principal, with any input or questions you have about graduation.

Congratulations Graduates and School Organization Information

Our graduation last night was a very special event.  The graduating class of 2016 enjoyed an evening ceremony at The Stephen Leacock Theatre and a celebration dinner and dance back at W.J. Watson.  Thank you to all the parents who worked many hours volunteering to make our graduation night a huge success!   All the best is extended to our 50 graduating students as they leave Elementary School and transition to Secondary School in September.   We will miss their smiling faces at W.J. Watson every day.

We wish the following staff members the very best as they transition to new roles at York Region Schools.   It is hard to say goodbye to this highly professional and dedicated group of educators.  We will miss all of you!

Ms. Alice Berger

Mrs. Hina Bhalla

Mrs. Faye Demczuk

Ms. Aimee Kendall

Miss Alison McCulla

Miss Savanna Quiring

Mrs. Camille Rampersad

Mr. Odisho Reus

Mr. Michael Skelton

The following staff members will be on leave in 2016-2017:

Mrs. Tammy Green

Mrs. Michelle Anderson

The following staff members are welcomed back from leave:

Mrs. June McCulla

Ms. Tracy Wright

Welcome to the following new staff members:

Mrs. Ashley Anderson – EA- ADH

Mrs. Alison Roberts – D.E.C.E.

Mrs. Krystal White – Teacher

We are already looking forward to and are planning for the 2016-2017 School Year!  The following organization is tentative and is based on current enrollment numbers:

JK/SK Grade 3/4
JK/SK Grade 4
SK/1 Grade 5
Grade 1 Grade 5/6
Grade 1/2 Grade 6
Grade 2 Grade 7/8
Grade 2/3 Grade 7/8

Our student enrollment has continued to decline somewhat and as a result, we will have two less homeroom classes next year based on student enrollment and staffing allocations.

If student enrollment increases or decreases there may be a change in the school organization in the summer months and/or in the month of September.  Due to changes that may occur over the summer, we do not share class placements or teacher names until the first day of school.  Families are asked to bring their children to the back of the school on Tuesday, September 6th, 2016 between 8:45 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.  When the bell rings, all students will be brought into the school and students will be assigned their homeroom classes.

Wishing all of the W.J. Watson P.S. families a wonderful safe and happy summer!

As always, please do not hesitate to contact the office with any questions, feedback, comments or concerns.

Sincerely,

Mrs. L. Crossley                                              Ms. M. Murray

Principal                                                          Vice-Principal

Grade 8 Graduation Gratitude

Last night we had our grade 8 graduation.  What a wonderful evening!

Thank you to everyone who attended the ceremony at the Stephen Leacock Theatre.  We shared quite a few smiles and laughs and perhaps even a few tears.  It was a privilege to share the evening with all of you!

A special thank you to all our staff who organized and attended the evening. To the amazing parents who helped organize the graduation celebration at the school, including ordering food, creating New York City in our gym, and even designing little “goodie bags”, thank you!  A special thank you to those parents who helped clean up today as well.

To all of our graduates, congratulations!  We wish you all the best in the future.  Please come back to visit!

Best wishes,

W.J. Watson Staff
