On Thursday, October 12th, students in grades K-8 will be screened by Lice Crew, a Board Approved Service Provider. This whole school screening takes place 3 times per year during the months when Pediculosis is traditionally more active in student populations. This school community service is funded by fundraising and approved through School Council. Families will be contacted if the presence of nits/casings, nymphs or adult lice are found. Students with the presence of pediculosis are re-checked the following week at the same time students who were absent on the screening date are checked.
Each year cases of pediculosis (head lice) are found throughout our schools. In an effort to reduce the numbers of cases found and decrease the inconvenience to families and students, we will be having a school-wide pediculosis check beginning on Friday, January 22nd, 2016.
Classes will be called down and students will sit in a private setting. The scalp area will be checked briefly by one of our volunteers, who will strictly adhere to our Board’s policy on confidentiality.
If live pediculosis (lice) are detected, families will be contacted and the student will need to be picked up from school to receive pediculosis treatment at home. Families of students with nits (eggs) will also be contacted and information on how to address pediculosis will be shared. In both cases, students will be asked to return a form to school indicating that a treatment for pediculosis has been completed.
Should you have any questions, comments or concerns, please contact the office.
